"The Johnsons" - An Exhibition of Paintings by Erika Pochybova Johnson and James W Johnson
"The Johnsons" will be the featured exhibition of about 20 paintings by Erika Pochybova Johnson and James W Johnson at the Charles Adams Gallery in September. The artists, who are married and living in Lubbock, will be exhibiting new work from this year.
Erika, who recently completed 2 large painting commissions for UMC, will be showing a variety of themes including a large abstraction titled "Forget Me Not". In her new abstract series, Erika begins with an action painting technique, similar to Jackson Pollock, then she establishes more 'order' with a careful, detailed application of paint to these chaotic structures. The result, as usual, is enhanced when viewed with special 3d glasses, which the artist will have available at the opening.
James, who recently had exhibitions in Sante Fe and Tulsa, will be showing large and small paintings that contain animals, landscapes and abstraction. Many of these new paintings are primarily painted with palette knives, including a painting titled "Foal Spirit". James will also be showing 2 new "suitcase animal" sculptures.
